The group was set up to knit tiny jumpers for newborn African babies when they left hospital. They were known as "Fish and Chip Babies" as many of them left hospital wrapped in newspaper.
Over the years the group have knitted for various causes and charities. see examples below of current beneficiaries.

We enjoy working in a lively chatty environment. Each person brings their own yarn and needles, although we have been lucky enough to receive danations of yarn which we quickly put to use.
You can bring your own workand benefit from the supportive inspiration of the group, or you can use some of the patterns aailable to knot for the various charities/organisations we support.
If you are not able to attend in person but love to knit/crochet please get in touch to discuss how you can contribute to the group's activities.

Other Ad Hoc Requests
Hospice Hearts
For the last couple of years the Hospice have requested hearts to give away at an event in Carlisle City Centre, the group responded with knitted, crochet and sewn hearts of all shapes, sizes and colours

NHS Angels
We were contacted by the ladies of St John the Baptist [Upperby] to see if we wanted to join the challenge from the NHS to all knitters to create Angels to be distributed to NHS Staff for Christmas.
The group were delighted to accept this challenge and quickly produced hundreds of Angels in a variety of styles and colours, both knitted and crochet.
Talkin Village Poppy Appeal
The group were delighted to respond to a request from Talkin Village to knit some poppies for a display in their church. With a variety of patterns the group produced red, white and purple poppies along with a few leaves. The picture on the right does not do the spectacular life-size structure justice, it was truly remarkable to see and something the group were proud to help with in such a small way. The structure will be on display for many years to come.

Helping Refugee Groups
After responding to a request for hats, scarfs and socks, the refugee football team wondered if we could do some hats and scarfs in their colours. They were delighted with the results and were keen for us to see them modeling the apparel.
A baby is expected in August, the group were asked if we had any suitable items, we have put together a small bag of items we hope will be useful for the new arrival.
